Sask. COVID-19 update: seven new cases, one in hospital, seven more recoveries

There are seven new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Sept. 8, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the total to 1,669 reported cases. Three of the new cases are in the Regina area.

There are seven new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Sept. 8, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the total to 1,669 reported cases. 

Three of the new cases are in the Regina area. Two are in the north central region, and there is one each in the Saskatoon and south central zones.

Of the 1,669 reported cases, 58, or 3.4 per cent, are considered active. 

Seven more people have recovered, bringing the provincial total to 1,587 cases, or about 95 per cent of those diagnosed with the virus.

One person is in hospital in intensive care in Saskatoon.

There have been 428 cases from the south area (218 southwest, 197 south central, 13 southeast). Two cases in the southeast are considered active. Neither case is from Zone 4, which includes Estevan.

As for the rest of the province, 355 cases are from the far north area (349 far northwest, six far northeast); 276 cases are from the Saskatoon area; 270 cases are from the north area (131 northwest, 73 north central, 66 northeast); 203 cases are from the central area (166 central west, 37 central east); and 136 cases are from the Regina area.

The location of one case reported Sept. 7 is pending.

Of the 1,669 cases in the province, 254 cases are travellers, 838 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 493 have no known exposures and 84 are under investigation by local public health.

Sixty-seven cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.

A total of 280 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 542 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 506 are in the 40-59 age range, 283 are in the 60-79 age range and 58 are in the 80-plus range.

Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

Twenty-four deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.

To date, 151,772 COVID‐19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of Sept. 6, when other provincial and national numbers were available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 108,543 people tested per million population. The national rate was 155,414 people tested per million population.

There were 1,035 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan on Monday.
