Sask. COVID-19 update: three deaths, 226 new cases, 123 in hospital, 105 recoveries

Three residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. All three deaths were reported in the Regina zone. Two were in the 80-plus age group and one was in the 70-79 age group.

There are 226 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Sunday bringing the provincial total to date to 13,555 cases.

Six new cases have been reported in the southeast region. All six are in South East Zone 1, in the northwest corner.

There are three active cases in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan.

A total of 424 cases have been reported in the southeast since mid-March. There are 114 active cases in the region.

The other new cases are located in the far northwest (six), far northeast (15), northwest (30), north central (38), northeast (five), Saskatoon region (55), central east (30), Regina region (32) and south central (five), and four new cases have pending residence information.

Of the cases, 3,880 out of the 13,555, or 28.6 per cent, are considered active. 

Another 105 people have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,557, or 70.5 per cent of those diagnosed. Three hundred recoveries are from the southeast.

There are 123 people are in hospital. One hundred and four people are receiving inpatient care: two in the far northwest, one in the far north central, six in the northwest, 18 in the north central, two in the northeast, 39 in Saskatoon, one in the central west, five in the central east, 23 in Regina and seven in the southeast. The number of people in hospital in the southeast is up by one.

Nineteen people are in intensive care: one in the northwest, six in the north central, nine in Saskatoon, two in Regina and one in the southwest.

Of the 13,555 cases in the province, 585 cases are travelers, 6,476 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 3,030 have no known exposures and 3,464 are under investigation by local public health.

There have been 570 cases in healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.

A total of 2,907 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 4,793 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 3,494 are in the 40-59 age range, 1,767 are in the 60-79 age range and 589 are in the 80-plus range. Confirmation of age is pending for five cases.

Fifty-one per cent of the cases are female and 49 per cent are male.

A total of 118 deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported to date.

Of the 13,555 confirmed cases:

  • 3,951 cases are from the Saskatoon area;
  • 3,099 cases are from the north area (1,210 northwest, 1,446 north central, 443 northeast);
  • 2,668 cases are from the Regina area;
  • 1,492 cases are from the south area (549 southwest, 519 south central, 424 southeast);
  • 1,447 cases are from the far north area (825 far northwest, 103 far north central, 519 far northeast); and
  • 856 cases are from the central area (330 central west, 526 central east).
  • Forty-two cases have pending residence information.

To date, 406,083 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan. As of Friday, when other provincial and national numbers were available, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 247,937 people tested per million population. The national rate was 346,743 people tested per million population.

There were 3,029 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Saturday, including 128 from the southeast.
