Sask. COVID-19 update: three more deaths, 222 new cases, 117 in hospital, 128 recoveries

Three Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died, according to the Ministry of Health. Two new deaths in the 80-plus age group were reported in Saskatoon and one new death in the 70-79 age group was reported in Regina.

Three Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died, according to the Ministry of Health. Two new deaths in the 80-plus age group were reported in Saskatoon and one new death in the 70-79 age group was reported in Regina.

There are 222 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Dec. 13, bringing the provincial total to date to 11,971 cases.

Five of the new cases are in the southeast region. Two are in Southeast Zone 4, which includes Estevan. Two new cases are in Zone 2, to the north of Zone 4, and one new case is in Zone 1, to the northwest of Zone 4.

There are three active cases in Zone 4, which is still the lowest number in the province.

Out of the 164 active cases in the southeast, 120 are in Zone 1.

A total of 386 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the southeast since mid-March.

The new cases for the rest of the province are located in the far northwest (15), far northeast (nine), northwest (39), north central (15), northeast (six), Saskatoon area (53), central west (three), central east (eight), Regina area (57), southwest (four) and south central (six).

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 264 (21.8 new cases per 100,000 population).

Of the cases, 4,188 cases out of the 11,971, or about 35 per cent, are considered active.

Another 128 people have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 7,694, or 64.2 per cent of those diagnosed.

One hundred and seventeen people are in hospital. Ninety-four people are receiving inpatient care: one in the far northwest, six in the northwest, 10 in the north central, 42 in Saskatoon, two in the central east, 25 in Regina, two in the south central and six in the southeast. The number of people in hospital in the southeast is unchanged from Dec. 12.

Twenty-three people are in intensive care: six in the north central, seven in Saskatoon, nine in Regina and one in the southwest.

Eighty-nine deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported to date.

A total of 2,948 COVID-19 tests were processed in Saskatchewan on Dec. 12, including 109 in the southeast.
