Two current directors were re-elected, a former director was re-elected and a first-time candidate is joining the board.
Among the re-elected directors is Fillmore producer Jake Leguee, who was first elected as a director in 2017.
He has served as vice-chair of the board, and as a Sask Wheat representative on the boards of Cereals Canada and the Canadian Wheat Research Coalition (CWRC).
Also elected were Scott Hepworth, who farms near Assiniboia, and previously served as a Sask Wheat director from 2016 to 2020, serving as vice-chair for two years.
Robert Stone of Davidson was elected, and has been farming since 2003 along with being a seed retailer. He was an RM councillor and served on the Davidson Kinsmen Club for many years.
Brett Halstead of Nokomis was first elected in 2017 as a director, and has served as chair of the board since January of 2020. He represents Sask Wheat on the board of directors for Cereals Canada.
In the vote tally, Leguee received the most votes at 1,686, followed by Halstead with 1,685; Hepworth with 1,679; Stone, 1,636; Allen Kuhlmann, 927 votes, and Greg Brkich, 593 votes.
There were a total of 2,466 verified ballots returned in this election, with 1,513 producers voted by paper ballot, and 953 producers voted online.
Each director was elected to a four-year term, and will be joining four existing directors.
Two long-standing directors will be leaving the board in January 2022, including Bill Gehl of Regina, first elected in 2013 and board chair from 2014 to 2018; and Ken Rosaasen of Saskatoon, who farms near Preeceville, also first elected in 2013.
The newly-elected directors will start at the Sask Wheat AGM on Monday, Jan. 10 at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon during the Crop Production Show.
Producers who are unable to attend in person will be able to attend online.
