Saskatchewan COVID-19 update: eight new cases, 12 in hospital, 11 more recoveries

There are eight new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on July 21, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the total to 970 cases. Three of the cases are in the south region.

There are eight new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on July 21, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the total to 970 cases. 

Three of the cases are in the south region. Two new cases are in each of the far north and central regions, and one is in Saskatoon.

Of the 970 reported cases, 142, or 14.6 per cent, are considered active.

Eleven more people have recovered, bringing the total to 813. About 93.4 per cent of people diagnosed with the disease are considered recovered.

 Twelve people are in hospital. Nine people are receiving inpatient care, with seven in Saskatoon, one in the south and one in the north. Three people are in intensive care: two in Saskatoon and one in the south.

A total of 123 cases have been diagnosed in the south; 46 are considered active. There have been 342 cases from the far north, 212 are from the Saskatoon area, 124 from the north, 87 from the Regina area and 82 from the central region.

Of the 970 cases in the province, 187 cases are travellers, 528 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 168 have no known exposures and 87 are under investigation by local public health.

Fifty-eight cases are health care workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances.

There have been 133 cases involving people 19 years of age and under, 333 cases in the 20-39 age range, 304 in the 40-59 age range, 168 in the 60-79 age range and 32 in the 80-plus range.

Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

Fifteen deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported to date.

To date, 83,676 COVID‐19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of July 19, when other provincial and national numbers were available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 61,413 people tested per million population.  The national rate was 95,071 people tested per million population.
