Saskatchewan COVID-19 update: five new cases, two in hospital, one more recovery

There are five new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Sept. 5, bringing the total to 1,643 reported cases, the Ministry of Health said Saturday. Three new cases are located in the Saskatoon region and two are in the south central zone.

There are five new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Sept. 5, bringing the total to 1,643 reported cases, the Ministry of Health said Saturday. 

Three new cases are located in the Saskatoon region and two are in the south central zone.

Of the 1,643 reported cases, 40, or 2.4 per cent, are considered active. 

One more person has recovered, bringing the total to 1,579, or 96.1 per cent of those diagnosed.

Two people are in hospital. One person is receiving inpatient care in Saskatoon and one person is in intensive care in Saskatoon.

There were 423 cases from the south area (217 southwest, 195 south central, 11 southeast). None of the cases in the southeast are considered active.

As for the rest of the province, 353 cases from the far north area (347 far northwest, six far northeast); 270 cases are from the Saskatoon area; 267 cases from the north area (130 northwest, 71 north central, 66 northeast); 198 cases are from the central area (164 central west, 34 central east); and 132 cases from the Regina area

Of the 1,643 cases in the province, 251 cases are travellers, 832 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 488 have no known exposures and 72 are under investigation by local public health.

Sixty-six cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.

A total of 276 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 529 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 501 are in the 40-59 age range, 279 are in the 60-79 age range and 58 are in the 80-plus range.

Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

Twenty-four deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.

To date, 146,795 COVID‐19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of Sept. 3, when other provincial and national numbers were available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 104,345 people tested per million population. The national rate was 151,569 people tested per million population.
