Copper Ridge has advised Rocanville town council that construction of a duplex designed as seniors’ housing could begin as early as September.

ROCANVILLE — Rocanville Town Council has officially given Copper Ridge Construction the green light for their project on Cameron Crescent. During their regular meeting on Aug. 27, council approved a building permit for a duplex — the first of three structures, as the company intends to build a pair of triplexes in the future.

“We approved one of the new duplexes being built on Cameron Crescent,” confirmed Administrator Tanya Strandlund. “There’s a development in the building permit approved pending a land purchase agreement being signed.”

During a public open house meeting on Aug. 18, representatives from Copper Ridge noted that construction could begin as early as September. A foundation for the duplex is anticipated to be poured at the site soon.

SUMAinvest

Council approved the plan to begin investing with SUMAinvest, which allows Saskatchewan municipalities to pool reserves and benefit from a professionally-managed investment portfolio. SUMAinvest is a partnership between the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association and the Saskatchewan Community Foundation with a goal to bolster the financial capacity of municipalities through pooled reserve investment.

Foreman’s report

Public Works in Rocanville has been busy with maintenance as summer shifts to fall.

“We got our Reservoir Three cleaned this past week; there was a lot of prep work in regards to draining it, verifying valves, and getting all the isolation properly done,” Strandlund explained. “Our crew was pretty busy in our plant in the last little while.”

Filter cleaning at the water treatment plant was another important job, one that isn’t necessarily noticed.

Recreation report

The Rocanville Skating Rink is gearing up for another busy season, and residents may have noticed some exterior repairs being completed as well.

“Somebody ended up driving into our rink and damaging a wall, so the insurance company and the contractors are on site right now fixing that,” Strandlund said of the incident that occurred in the spring.

Fall programming at the recreation centre is also bustling, as is the pool, as construction nears completion.

“The rec office has been really busy with the Lucky Lottery and the Terry Fox walk that’s coming up,” Strandlund added.

Housing authority chair appointed

In correspondence, council received a ministerial order appointing Cindy Gosling as the new chair for the Rocanville Housing Authority.
