The 18th annual Southeast Environmental & Safety Seminar will be held on Wednesday, March 19 in Estevan at the Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute.

If you are in the business of occupational health, safety, or the environment, then you are probably aware of the Southeast Enviro and Safety Seminar. Also known as SEESS, the one-day seminar has been held annually, alternating venues between Weyburn and Estevan for the past 18 years.

This year, the 18th annual Southeast Environmental & Safety Seminar will be held on Wednesday, March 19 in Estevan at the Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute.

The main goal of the event is to provide a quality learning opportunity for employers and employees. Organized by a group of volunteers with various energy and environmental backgrounds, the seminar succeeds at attracting presenters with expertise in environmental and industry safety areas. As support for the event grows from year to year, the committee is able to pursue high profile speakers. This year is no exception with a speaker line-up that includes:

Brian Keating (keynote), Naturalist and international Conservation Advisor, has travelled the planet and studied wildlife for three decades. He returned earlier this year from the Antarctic, having been on some two dozen expeditions there over the past decade alone. Brian's presentation will take the audience on a voyage through one of the most astounding survival adventures of all time. Ernest Shackleton was an extraordinary leader, who beat all possible odds during a 2-year struggle with survival in the Antarctic. Brian has retraced much of his route, including 3 successful landings on the remote Elephant Island where 22 of his men spent 4 long months awaiting rescue. Brian's presentation will illustrate the brilliant leadership qualities that enabled Shackleton to return home without the single loss of life, illustrating lessons of life and leadership, courage and endurance.

Dr. Mark Moyad, MD, MPH (keynote), Health Expert and Author, will provide health advice on how to become stronger and healthier mentally and physically. Dr. Moyad is the Jenkins/Pokempner Director of Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center (Department of Urology). He is the co-author or author of 10 books including 2 more books coming out in 2014. In 2009 he was named as one of the most influential doctors in the U.S. from a USA Today survey. In 2012 Dr. Moyad also became the founder and President of the Promoting Wellness non-profit foundation whose primary purpose is to improve access and the health and well-being of indigent patients around the world ("to practice random acts of medical kindness").

Curt Minard, Motivational Safety Speaker, was involved in a workplace accident in 2008 and will present his own approach to safety. Jim Balmer, Safety Consultant, will discuss traffic safety issues currently affecting Saskatchewan and Alberta. Cameron McNaughton, Environmental Engineer, will discuss baseline soil gas and surface CO2 flux work at the Aquistore site.

Registration for the one-day seminar is $150 per person and includes lunch, a seminar gift, and a chance to win one of two $500 door prizes. Various companies will also have exhibits on display to promote their products and services. Please visit www.seess.ca for more information or to register online.
