The Christian Ethics Mission Trip students will be hosting a fundraising concert by the Weyburn Comprehensive School Stars Choir on Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. at the Grace United Church.

Eighteen students and 10 adults will be travelling to Peru to a small town called Pamplona where they will build concrete stairs so the town has better access to a water supply.

The group of students from Weyburn, Estevan and Radville need to raise a total of $75,000 for this special trip, which has been done through fundraising activities and commercial donations, said coordinator Lynn Colquhoun.

"Each of the schools have done their own fundraisers as well," said Colquhoun.

To be eligible to take part in this trip, students must be enrolled in their second Christian Ethics class and submit a $500 deposit as well as volunteer for all the fundraising efforts.

"The students come back completely changed," she said.

This is the third Christian Ethics Mission trip for Weyburn, Estevan and Radville students. Previously, groups travelled to Mexico to build homes and schools and to the Dominican Republic to help with the sugar cane harvest.

Colquhoun said one of the students returned saying, "I have never thought about not having a door to close at home." The students' viewpoints are forever changed following the trips.

"It's a great experience for them to have," said Colquhoun.

After the concert, there will be a coffee social where people may donate to the cause.

To date, the group has raised $65,000. They leave for their journey to Peru on March 23.
