Students force teachers onto roof after raising $11,000

Students at Assiniboia Park Elementary School raised $10,921.20 for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research, becoming the top fundraising school in the province and forcing their principal and teachers onto the roof.

Assiniboia Park Elementary School principal Vickie Betker, Grade 5 teacher Tammy Manning and Grade 5 teacher Kevin Butz spent the night on the school's roof on May 26 in acknowledgement of their students raising almost $11,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

Students at Assiniboia Park Elementary School raised $10,921.20 for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research, becoming the top fundraising school in the province and forcing their principal and teachers onto the roof.Students began raising money in April when they participated in the MS Read-a-Thon, achieving two goals - to encourage the students to read more and to raise money for the MS Society of Canada. As a result of raising so much money, principal Vickie Betker and teachers Tammy Manning and Kevin Butz agreed to spend one night on the roof of the school on May 26.Finally, as part of the fundraising challenge, Butz, who regularly shaves his head, agreed to grow his hair out until the last day of school.
