Local students will return to classes on Thursday, September 1.
Teachers for the Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division were at their annual convention in Weyburn on Aug. 29.
The school division does not know their enrollment numbers yet, but they will have a better idea by mid-September.
There are a number of important goals for the Cornerstone school division for the upcoming school year.
“We are currently finalizing the learning plan for the school division, called ‘Moving Forward’, and that is where our focus will be,” said Lynn Little, director of education for the Southeast Cornerstone.
“We have put a lot of energy and time on our early learning and literacy plans across the school division. We will be expanding that plan into the Grade 4 and 5 levels and beginning to prepare for our Grade 7 to 9 plan.”
“We have a number of schools throughout the school division that are doing a Jump Math pilot in their Grade 1 to 8 classrooms,” said Little.
One of the biggest changes for Weyburn schools is at the Comprehensive, which will be operated as a Grade 7 to 12 school.
“The school and their School Community Councils have worked so diligently on the transition of that school for the last number of years. So there is excitement moving closer to the first day of school,” said Little.
Cyberstone, the online program for Cornerstone, is continuing to grow for the school division too. They will be introducing Grade 8 and 9 online courses this year.
Also, there will be a board election for the Southeast Cornerstone and the Holy Family Roman Catholic School Division this year. The nomination date is set for Sept. 21. Those interested in being a board member can pick up a nomination package from the selected school division at their Weyburn office.
The school board elections will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
