COVID-19 is still affecting everyone, even in this new year of 2021.
The elderly members of the community are still hugely affected by this. Because of their high risk to the virus, they are not allowed many visitors or socializing with the outside world at all.
Thankfully, there are wonderful people in our communities that are doing all they can to make this rough time more bearable for our elderly and founders of our towns and villagers.
Stephanie Barnes of the Expressway Family Centre has come up with a great idea to allow the elderly at The Villa a bit of outside socialization: a Zoom Story Day.
On Feb. 19 at 10:15 a.m., the hope is that four or five young readers will be signed up for the day and that this will help the residents feel less isolated. The reading session lasts 45 minutes and there are hopes that this will come a monthly event for the residents at The Villa in Oxbow.
The students can read anything they like and can be any age. They can pick their books and read their choice over the Zoom chat.
If you have any children that would be interested in this you can contact the Expressway Family Centre using their Facebook page messenger.
Barnes will get everything lined up for the session and send the link to the family of the child or children that wish to participate. This is a great way to stay in touch with your fellow community members.
The Expressway Family Centre also has a Valentine’s Day activity lined up for Feb. 12. There is also skating in Alameda on Family Day from 1-4 p.m. and a laser tag day lined up for Feb. 20. You can find all this and more on their Facebook page.
