The ‘JAMS’ family gears up for dinner

After Sandy John’s first husband Daryl Spencer passed away 12 years ago, she didn’t want to feel alone at the holidays. So she and her three daughters set out to make sure there were lots of people around with whom to celebrate Christmas.

Now, Sandy and her daughters are gearing up for the 11th annual JAMS Family Christmas Day Dinner and they welcome anybody who might feel alone during the holidays to join them.

JAMS stands for the names of Sandy and her three daughters: Jen, Ali and Mikki.

The dinner will be held on Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25 at Knox Hall, start at 1 p.m. A donation of $10 for the meal is suggested, but those who are unable to pay are still welcome to attend.

All of the money raised at the dinner will be donated to the Knox Hall, for all their years of support to the event.

There were just over 50 people in attendance the first year Spencer and her daughters organized the dinner, but has grown to the point where it almost fills the entire hall. The seating capacity at Knox Hall is 130.

For Spencer, whose children and grandchildren are always part of the dinner, said that the JAMS dinner has become the main family event for them. Most importantly, they enjoy sharing the day with old friends, and meeting new ones.
