Keeping the Canadian family and consumer in mind, the Throne Speech provides for a host of new initiatives like supporting greater competition in the wireless sector, by addressing roaming costs on networks within Canada, providing Canadians with the opportunity to choose the combination of television channels they want, taking steps to address geographic price discrimination against Canadians, by supporting victims of crime and punishing criminals, and by introducing the Victim's Bill of Rights and legislation to address cyber-bullying.
"The Throne Speech proposes future actions that will deliver tangible benefits to Canadians," said Ed Komarnicki, MP Souris Moose Mountain.
"It is, indeed, all about securing the future, seizing the moment, and building on a strong foundation that we as a Conservative government have established. It is about continuing on the path of job creation, economic growth, reducing the deficit, and keeping taxes low. It provides the opportunity to secure the future and provide long term prosperity for our generation and our children's generation."
There will be a continuing emphasis on opening new markets for Canadian goods, services, and investment, as well as the removal of inter-provincial trade barriers. Measures to address the lack of key infrastructure that threatens to strand natural resources at a time when global demand for Canadian energy is soaring. Future prosperity depends on reasonable development of these resources.
"While the economy continues to remain the main focus, additional measures are aimed at improving First Nations education, consulting with First Nations on natural resources projects, economic development, job training, and job creation," said Komarnicki.
The Throne Speech provides that the status quo in the Senate of Canada is unacceptable. The Senate must be reformed or, as with its provincial counterparts, vanish. The government will proceed with this in mind upon receiving the advice of the Supreme Court. It also proposes changes to Canada's election laws to uphold the integrity of our voting system. Legislation will be introduced in time for implementation prior the next federal election.
