A member of the “Tornado Hunter” team will be in Weyburn on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Festival of Leaves craft and trade show at the Weyburn Curling Rink.
The visit by Chris Chittick, a videographer who works with “Tornado Hunter” Greg Johnson, is to help out the Salvation Army’s food bank, as residents are encouraged to bring items of non-perishable food to help replenish the food bank’s shelves, said festival organizer Lisa Vick.
The Tornado Hunter truck, along with a display, will be on-site at the Curling Rink from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the craft and trade show is on from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the rink.
“The truck will be outside so members of the community can come by and see the truck and the equipment, and talk to Chris,” said Vick.
“In return, we’re asking people to bring non-perishable food items to fill the shelves of the food bank. The shelves are very bare, and they need lunch items for the kids who are back in school,” she added.
Chittick is from Greenville, Mich., and has been chasing storms for the last 15 years. He has recorded 423 tornadoes and 10 hurricanes, and has spoken widely about safety practices while chasing wild storms.
