Two female young offenders face charges following a stolen car incident over the weekend in Weyburn that ended with a crash on Ash Drive.
A city police officer on patrol at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday westbound on Saskatchewan Drive observed a red Buick travelling east at a high rate of speed towards the marked patrol unit. Police slowed and activated the emergency lights, the vehicle upon seeing the police accelerated past the police vehicle continuing eastbound. Police turned to follow but lost sight of the vehicle, though it was located seconds later as it had failed to negotiate the curve on Ash Drive and hit a parked vehicle.
Two individuals were seen as they attempted to flee the scene. Both individuals were arrested a short time later. A three-year-old child was also located in the vehicle; the child is a relative of one of the young offenders. None of the occupants of the vehicle suffered any injuries as a result of the collision.
The investigation resulted in a female young offender being charged with dangerous driving, failure to stop for police, theft of a motor vehicle and breach of an undertaking. The passenger, also a female young offender, was charged with theft of motor vehicle and breach of an undertaking.
Both young offenders were remanded in custody and transported to the Paul Dojack Center in Regina, and made their first court appearance on Monday. The three-year-old child was turned over to family members after consultation with Social Services.

Police responded to a complaint of an intoxicated male causing problems in a parking lot of a northwest hotel on July 22. The 21-year-old male was arrested and lodged in cells and released when sober, with no criminal charges laid.
Police were dispatched to a disturbance at a downtown bar on July 22. Police located an individual who was causing problems with two other patrons. The individuals were separated and driven to their residence.
City police received a report of a bike and bike trailer stolen from a residence in the NE area of the city on July 22. The bike is described as a white CCM mountain bike and a blue Schwinn two-seat trailer which had been attached to the bike.
Police received a complaint of an assault from a 37-year-old woman only July 22, who stated she was walking in the downtown area when a male she did not know approached her and grabbed her. She was able to get away and suffered no injuries. The subsequent investigation identified a suspect who later was located and arrested. A 41-year-old Star City man was later released from custody and will be making his first court appearance in August.
Police received a complaint that between July 20 and 22, unknown persons had slashed two tires on a GMC van that had been parked in the NW area of the city. The investigation into this matter continues.
Police received a complaint that a SaskTel SAC box which was located in a parking lot at First Avenue NE and Fifth Street NE had been damaged on July 23. It appears the circuit box was hit by either a slow moving vehicle or trailer. Further inspection of the damage is to be conducted by SaskTel. There are no suspects, and the investigation into this incident continues.
Police received a complaint of a theft from a motor vehicle on July 24. The victim's vehicle had been parked in the mall parking lot and had been entered through an open window. Stolen was the victim's wallet which contained identification and personal papers. There are no suspects at this time.
Police received a complaint of a vehicle being damaged overnight early on July 25. The vehicle had been parked in the downtown area and unknown persons had broken the windows. The investigation into this matter continues.
Police received a complaint of a vehicle hitting a parked car in a parking lot on July 25, and when the male driver exited the vehicle he was seen to have difficulty walking. Police later located the vehicle and the male driver was charged with impaired and drive while over .08. The male will be making his first court appearance in August.
While on patrol on July 26, police located a vehicle parked on Confederation Drive which had been damaged. The vehicle had been keyed and the front windshield broken. This matter remains under investigation.
As a result of an ongoing investigation, a 20-year-old Weyburn male was arrested on July 26 and charged with breach of undertaking. The male was transported to Regina where he appeared in court on July 27.
Police attended to a two-vehicle accident at Bison Avenue and Sixth Street on July 27 after one vehicle travelling eastbound failed to stop for a stop sign. Both vehicles were non-drivable and towed from the scene. The driver of the eastbound vehicle was charged with failing to obey a stop sign.
Police attended to a local hotel on July 27 after receiving a complaint of a man failing to pay for his food and hotel. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
While on patrol, police observed an altercation between two males near a northwest bar on July 28. As a result of the altercation EMS was called to check on the welfare of one of the combatants, and both males were charged and issued tickets for being drunk in public.
Police received a complaint on July 28 that a number of windows at St. Michael School had been broken. There are no suspects, and the investigation into this matter continues.
A theft was reported to police on July 28, after the victim's two dogs, a two-month-old Rottweiller and a seven-month-old black German Shepherd were taken from the backyard of a northwest residence. The investigation into this matter continues.
