Estevan RCMP members responded to a collision on Highway 18 involving two vehicles. Two people, who have not been identified, were killed in the incident.
Emergency crews were called to the scene about 15 kilometres west of Estevan at 9:18 this morning.
An RCMP press release said an automobile was headed eastbound on Highway 18 and entered the westbound lane, striking a westbound semi truck hauling a Super B trailer loaded with fertilizer.
Upon impact, the automobile started on fire. Estevan Fire Rescue Services arrived and worked to extinguish the blaze. The vehicle was burnt beyond identification, the RCMP reported.
Two occupants of the automobile were pronounced deceased at the scene. The names of the deceased are not being released at this time, pending further investigation.
The driver of the semi truck received minor injuries and was treated by Estevan EMS.
RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist is on the scene to investigate. The area around the collision site on Highway 18 is expected to be closed until some time in the late afternoon or early evening.
This accident remains under investigation.
