Two men were arrested and charged with drug and weapons offences, and were released pending their court date on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
The Weyburn Police Service executed a search warrant at 438 Albert Street on June 29. The city police was assisted by the RCMP Critical Incident Program Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Estevan Police Service Drug Unit.
Corby O’Byrne was arrested June 29 and has now been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, five counts of unsafe storage of firearms, five counts of possession of a firearm without a licence, one charge of unsafe storage of ammunition, and one charge of possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence.
He was released from custody on an undertaking given to a justice and will be making a court appearance Aug. 9.
Steven Chen from Calgary, 24, is facing charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, possession of proceeds of crime and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
He was also released on an undertaking to a justice with cash bail and will be making a court appearance Aug. 9.
A third subject was also dealt with by the police and the investigation into his involvement is continuing.
The police now believe that the shooting on June 20 is related to this investigation and are still actively pursuing that matter.
Other police also involved in the investigation were members of the Weyburn RCMP Combined Traffic Services and the Weyburn Police Service Serious Crime/Drug Unit.
