Two-vehicle collision results in fatality near Southey

Semi and SUV collide on Highway 6.

SOUTHEY – A woman from the George Gordon First Nation has died after a recent collision near Southey.

Around 2 p.m. on June 8, police, EMS and the Southey Fire Department responded to the collision on Highway 6 just north of Southey.

"Preliminary investigation indicated a northbound SUV and a southbound semi collided," said RCMP in a media release. "The SUV had two adult occupants, the driver and a passenger."

The driver, a 77-year-old woman, died on scene and her family has been notified. The passenger of the SUV was taken to hospital for non life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the semi was not injured.

"Highway 6 was closed during initial investigation," RCMP said. "Southey RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision re-constructionist."
