The Estevan Police Service (EPS) confirmed on Thursday morning the human remains located in the valley on the city's west side belong to Geoffrey Alexander.
Alexander, 33, was positively identified following a postmortem examination in Saskatoon on Wednesday. The cause of death is still unknown at this time. He had been missing since Nov. 12.
No further details have been released, as the matter remains under investigation.
Alexander’s body was found at around 3 p.m. on Monday by a local resident who was walking in the valley. Police were contacted and the immediate area was secured, said Estevan Police Service Insp. Murray Cowan.
A team of specially trained search and rescue personnel started a sweep of the entire valley region on Tuesday and Wednesday. The team was searching for any additional items or evidence that might assist in the investigation.
"There is no knowledge of foul play. That will have to be determined later," said Cowan during a Dec. 22 communication with the Mercury.
The Mercury will have more on this story as details become available.
