The treacherous weather conditions have resulted in travel not recommended advisories being issued for a number of highways in the southeast corner of the province.
As of 5:34 p.m., the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure had issued advisories for Highway 13 from Stoughton to the Manitoba border, Highway 18 from the north junction with Highway 9 to the Manitoba border, Highway 361 from the junction with Highway 47 to the Manitoba border, all of Highway 318, all of Highway 8 through southeast Saskatchewan, and Highway 9 from the east junction with Highway 18 to the Trans-Canada Highway.
At 5:40 p.m., travel not recommended advisories were issued for Highway 13 from Weyburn to Stoughton, Highway 35 from Weyburn to the Canada-U.S. border, and Highway 39 from Weyburn to Midale.
But at 7:26 p.m., the travel recommended advisories that remained were for Highway 13 from Weyburn to Stoughton, Highway 35 from Weyburn to the Canada-U.S. border, Highway 39 from Weyburn to Midale, Highway 361 from the junction with Highway 47 to the junction with Highway 9, and Highway 8 north of Redvers.
The others were lifted later in the evening.
As of early Monday morning, the highways were listed as wet or subject to freezing, have fog patches, and/or have icy or slippery sections.
Closer to Estevan, travel not recommended advisories were not issued, but winter conditions existed during the day. As of Monday morning, the highways had "seasonal conditions exist" close to Estevan.
The system brought rain, freezing rain and strong winds to the Estevan area Sunday. The precipitation changed to snow overnight. and the snow is expected to continue throughout the day, and be accompanied by strong winds, before tapering off in the early evening.
