A family of four watches the ducks as they float down the Souris River for the Duck Derby on Sunday, with the boardwalk on the opposite side lined with residents also keeping tabs on the ducks progress. There were about 2,200 ducks dumped into the river, and the first five to arrive at the finish line downstream won cash prizes. The duck derby, along a hot dog barbecue, face-painting and bouncy houses, were part of a fundraising event to kick off this year’s Communithon campaign, with the goal to raise $130,000 for the Weyburn and District United Way. First place of $756 in the duck derby was won by Kylie Coad, followed by Cary Thompson of $529, Larry Sonnenberg of $378, Canada Post of $226, and Aime Guillemin of $100.
