The 2016/17 school year is up and running at the Weyburn Comprehensive School, with around 900 Grade 7-12 students in class. Everyone is slowly adapting to the new WCS and it will likely take the whole year to iron out the kinks, but staff and administration are very happy with the fantastic start and looking forward to seeing what a great result will come out of it.
This is Welcome Week at the Comp and it involves the public. There will be a “Flap Jack Friday” on Sept. 16 with pancake and sausages served in the Colleen Weimer Hall from 7 to 9 a.m. There will be a small charge for the breakfast. Come and see how “cozy” the eating area is. The students will also having a “Taco In The Bag” lunch and other activities to kick off SRC activities for the year.
Students are out selling “WCS Community Cards” to help raise a portion of the money to fund the student activities for the year. For $20 you can get more than your money back for services and products. Residents are encouraged to support this drive when students approach them.
There are a couple of new teams at the school this year. In volleyball girls there is a senior team (Grades 10-12), a junior team (Grade 10-12) and an A team for Grades 7-9. In boys there is a senior team (Grades 10-12), junior team (Grades 9-10) and an A team for Grades 7 to 9. There will also be Grade 7 and 8 teams.
