FCC Drive Away Hunger collected 12,349 pounds of food from the Weyburn, Estevan and surrounding area as they traveled through Saskatchewan to help local food banks.
The FCC Drive Away Hunger mini tour ended its day in Assiniboia with a total food collection for the tour of 35,745 pounds of food. Moose Jaw and surrounding area collected 17,845 pounds of food and the Assiniboia area collected 5,551 pounds of food.
FCC Drive Away Hunger is a unique food drive that involves driving a tractor and trailer through communities to collect food and cash donations for food banks across the country. FCC employees from coast to coast, along with several community partners will strive to collect a record five million pounds of food for Canada's food banks this week to mark the 10th anniversary of the program. One hundred per cent of donations go to Canadian food banks.
FCC Drive Away Hunger is about making a difference in our communities by working together to help Canadian food banks feed people in need. Since 2004, the program has raised more than 11 million pounds of food.
In Saskatchewan, over 24,600 people are assisted by a food bank each month and 48 per cent of those are children.
