The City of Weyburn teamed up with a few different community organizations to collect food for the Salvation Army of Weyburn. Each city facility was teamed with an organization in which that facility has some connection or works with.

There was just over 2,600 pounds of food was donated, which totals roughly $5,000. The team that raised the most pounds of food won the competition, and earned a turkey donated to the Salvation Army on their behalf from the City of Weyburn.

Crescent Point Place facility employees were teamed with the Weyburn Red Wings and Weimer’s Hometown. The Weyburn Leisure Centre was teamed with the Weyburn Artistic Swimming and other pool users. Both these teams raised 250 pounds for the Weyburn Salvation Army.

City Hall was teamed with the Weyburn Credit Union, and this team raised 573 pounds. The Water Treatment Plant was teamed with the Weyburn Fire Department and Whitecap Resources. Public Works was teamed with A&B Concrete. Both these teams raised 830 pounds.

The Police Department was teamed with Barber Motors. This team won the competition by collecting 961 pounds.

The food collection was held to fill the void that might have been felt, since there was no physical CP Holiday Train this year, just a virtual event. As the Salvation Army wasn’t necessarily sure about a public food drive, city employees and the staff of the organizations held internal food collections for the Salvation Army. The only public bins were at the Weyburn Leisure Centre and Weyburn Red Wings had one at Weimer’s for a couple days.
