The City of Weyburn has hired two new senior management employees.
After an extensive nation-wide search, the city has named Sean Abram, P.Eng., FEC to the position of director of engineering.
He most recently ran his own consulting engineering firm in Cranbrook, BC. Abram has wide-ranging knowledge and experience with all aspects of municipal and infrastructure engineering. He served as a design coordinator for the Vancouver Island Highway Project Management Team.
He has extensive experience with municipal water systems, including project-managing water systems for the City of Nanaimo and Elkwater Rural Water Co-op Water System. He is a registered professional engineer in BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
"The engineering department is increasingly vital for Weyburn as we face the challenges of growth and infrastructure renewal. I am pleased to welcome someone with such a high level of expertise to our city team. I'm sure that Sean will do a great job for us," said Weyburn Mayor Debra Button.
Simon Almond from Etobicoke, Ontario is joining the city as fire chief. Almond has over 25 years of experience with both professional and volunteer fire departments. He is a graduate of the Institute of Fire Engineers in the UK and the Ontario Fire College.
Almond served as deputy fire chief for the City of Pickering and most recently he has served as a director with the Risk Reduction Strategies consulting firm.
"For a job like fire chief, you need the best of the best and that's what I feel we have found in Simon," said Button. "I would like to ask everyone in Weyburn to welcome Simon, Sean and their families to our city. We all know what a great community we have and this is an opportunity for us to prove it by going the extra mile to make our new City employees feel at home."
