Programs for children, teens, adults and families will be held throughout February at the Weyburn Public Library, including activities for Family Day.
A number of the programs will be held online, but many will include use of “take-and-make” kits available from the library to help make the activities more enjoyable.
The move to being online are due to the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by Public Health officials to help keep residents safe.
The Weyburn branch of the library is open for visitors, with a capacity limit of 30 people, including staff members, but curbside pickup services are still available for anyone who wishes to avoid having to come inside the branch.
Some of the programs for young children include music and movement, which is posted on the Southeast Regional Library’s YouTube channel and on Facebook and Instagram social media outlets. This program will be posted on Feb. 11 and 25 at 10:30 a.m., and is suitable for one to five year olds.
Storytime is posted on Feb. 3 and 17 at 10:30 a.m., and includes use of a “take-and-make” kit. Parents can also read the selected story on Tumblebooks, the free e-resource available through the library.
A Chinese lantern sun catcher activity will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 9, and parents are invited to register to reserve their take-and-make kits for this activity.
A family interactive movie it will be available from Feb. 12-22, with the movies “Frozen” and “Wreck it Ralph 2” available with props so families can bring the movies alive in their living rooms.
Some of the children’s programs include a Roblox Club, a STEM think tank activity to make a bird feeder, kids cooking class, and programs to make a Valentine wreath or a Chinese dragon puppet.
Once a child is registered for the Roblox club, to be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m., an email will be sent for how the child can join the selected game.
The bird feeder program will be posted on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m., with a take-and-make kit available with all of the needed supplies.
The Valentine wreath will be posted for Saturday, Feb. 6, with a take-and-make kit available, and the Chinese dragon puppet will be available with a take-and-make kit on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
The kids cooking class will be held virtually on Tuesday, Feb. 23 for children aged six to 12, and it will be posted online at 4 p.m. A take-and-make kit will include the ingredients, and the video will explain how to make the dish, which will be chocolate-covered pretzels.
For teens, a class will be held on making bubble tea on Tuesday, Feb. 16, with a take-and-make kit available with the ingredients included.
A video game online trivia contest will be held from Feb. 8-21, and those who register will be sent the link to join the online trivia contest on Kahoot. The top player can receive a $25 Walmart gift card as a prize.
A virtual beading workshop for teens and adults will be held during the month of February, led by Tawney Johnson, showing participants how to make hoop earrings. A take-and-make kit with the needed supplies will be available.
For adults, there will be a class on making felt flowers on Thursday, Feb. 4; a finger-knitting class for making hats on Thursday, Feb. 18; and an A-to-Z World Feed class will be posted on Friday, Feb. 12 and Thursday, Feb. 25.
The adult book club will meet in person on Monday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss this month’s selection, “A Girl Named Anna” by Lizzy Barber. For March, the club will be discussing the book “Separation Anxiety” by Laura Zigman. Copies of the book will be available to be picked up at the front desk, or it can be accessed through the library’s e-resources.
For adults who love to read but are unable to get to the library, they can contact the library for monthly book deliveries.
Adults can also take part in a “blind date with a book” in February, by checking out a mystery book or DVD. These can be requested for curbside pickup as well.
