Weyburn police investigate accidents, assault, impaired

On Oct. 29, members of the Weyburn Police Service attended to a local business after a disagreement between the business manager and a delivery person became heated and there were allegations of an assault. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.

Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Government Road on Thursday. The accident occurred after one vehicle had stopped for a train and the following vehicle failed to stop in time and ran into the back of the stopped vehicle. The driver of the lead vehicle suffered minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation.

Police attended to a two-vehicle accident at the corner of Fifth Street and Prairie Avenue on Thursday. Although significant damage to the vehicles occurred there were no reported injuries. No charges were laid in the accident.

Police received a report of a telephone fraud on Oct. 26. The victim had received a call that they had won a lottery but to claim the prize they needed to send some money through Western Union. The victim realized it was a scam so did not send any money. Members of the public are reminded these types of frauds occur periodically and no one should send any money to someone or some organization which you do not know. If the situation appears too good to be true, it probably is; if in doubt please contact the Weyburn Police Service.

Members of the Weyburn Police Service conducted a vehicle stop after witnessing the vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign on Saturday. The driver, a 32-year-old male was found to have been drinking. The investigation resulted in the driver receiving a three-day roadside suspension.

Police located a vehicle stopped at the intersection of First Avenue NE and Government Road with the driver slumped over behind the wheel on Saturday. The driver was visibly impaired and was arrested and transported to cells. As a result of the investigation the 48-year-old male was charged with impaired drive and driving while over .08. The accused was later released and will appear in court at a later date.

Police attended to a local hotel after receiving a complaint of a mischief on Saturday. The hotel owner had found damage to a room after the guest had checked out. The incident remains under investigation.

Police received a report of a hit-and-run after a witness had observed a truck back into a parked car in a store parking lot and then drive away on Sunday. Police later located the offending vehicle and the driver, a 64-year-old male, was charged with failing to report an accident.

Weyburn Police Service members were dispatched to attend to a residence in the east end of the City on Oct. 26, regarding a male being unlawfully in a dwelling. Police located an extremely intoxicated male in the house. The 21-year-old male was arrested for breach of the peace and lodged in cells until sober.

Members of the Weyburn Police Service attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on Oct. 27. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated, resulting in a pursuit which left the city going west on Highway 13 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle pursuit was discontinued due to safety concerns.

A person of interest has been identified and the investigation into the incident continues.

Police received a report of a theft of a truck which had been parked in the south end of the city on Oct. 27. The truck was later found burned in the south end of the city. The investigation into this incident continues.

Police received a report of a theft from a vehicle on Oct. 28. The vehicle, a commercial anhydrous hauler, while parked on the south end of the city had a anhydrous hose stolen. The incident remains under investigation.
