Weyburn Police seek info on sex assault crime

On Nov. 6, a 16-year-old female was walking to her vehicle which was parked in the parking lot of the 10 Block Second Street, just north of the Royal Hotel at approximately 9 p.m.


On Nov. 6, a 16-year-old female was walking to her vehicle which was parked in the parking lot of the 10 Block Second Street, just north of the Royal Hotel at approximately 9 p.m.

The victim was approached by a male, described as younger in age, wearing dark pants and clothing. The suspect attacked the victim, striking her on the head with a blunt object while forcing her into the back seat of her own vehicle. The victim was able to fight off the attacker and escape, fleeing on foot to the police station.

The victim was treated in hospital and later released to the safety of her family.

There are no suspects at this time and the Weyburn Police Service continues to investigate.

The Weyburn Police Service would like to remind women in the community to be conscious of their personal safety. A few suggested safety tips are:
Be aware of your surroundings; travel in pairs or groups whenever possible; stay in well-lit areas; check your vehicle prior to getting into it.

The Weyburn Police Service is looking for witnesses or any information regarding this terrible assault. If you witnessed anything in the area of the 10 block Second Street or know anything regarding this crime, please call the Weyburn Police Service or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Callers do not have to reveal their identity, and calls which lead to an arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
