The Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop held its Annual General Meeting on June 9.
Chairman Ken Meckling gave his report, discussing the growth of the organization over the past year and acknowledged the strong board of directors for their many volunteer hours.
Meckling also offered a thank you to the citizens and businesses not only in Weyburn but in southeast Saskatchewan for their support of the agency and those with disabilities.
The report from executive director Andria Brady celebrated the many successes of the agency over the past year, including: beginning construction on Phase 1 of the new building project; reaching the $500,000 fundraising goal for the new Day Program Building; reporting on the various revenue producing divisions and the surplus they generated; recognizing the various partnerships within the community and province that are integral to the success of the agency; the Ministry of Social Services, Community Living Service Delivery; SARC (Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres) and SARCAN Recycling families, schools and community.
She added the Wor-Kin Shop has also expanded services to individuals with disabilities by: increasing community-based programming; accepting additional individuals to their programs; successfully transitioning new individuals and continuing transitions with students in various schools across southeast Saskatchewan; expanding the supported employment program to include more individuals as well as more businesses within the city; and by focusing on person centred planning and meeting the goals and dreams of the individuals supported by the agency.
The regional manager for SARCAN Recycling provided a report and statistics on the growth of the recycling depot locally as well as provincially.
The evening ended with service awards being handed out to several employees.
Those receiving five year awards were Recycling Technician Ivan Robb, and Direct Support Professional Haley Sander.
Two employees who received 25 year awards: Recycling Technician Greg Procknow, and Program Director Carol Leslie.
