The 16th annual Weyburn Wheat Festival will be held from August 9 to 12. The Wheat Festival brings together many elements of Weyburn's cultural scene, spreading events out over four days.
The T.C. Douglas Performing Arts Centre, the Weyburn Horticultural Society, the Soo Line Historical Museum, the South Sask. Photo Club, the Signal Hill Arts Centre, and Heritage Village all have something on offer over the weekend.
The Weyburn Horticultural Society will be hosting the Provincial Horticultural Show on Thursday, Aug. 9 to Friday, Aug. 10. Gardeners from across the province will enter their plants, ranging from vegetables to flowers and many in between, in a judged show.
The public is invited to see the gardeners' works on display when the Horticultural Society opens its Tea Room at Knox Hall, from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday. A strawberry shortcake and tea and coffee will be served.
The Soo Line Historical Museum will have displays and tours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. The museum will also be selling homemade bread, and Saskatoon and rhubarb pies from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
The museum will also hold their bread baking contest. Entrants must submit their bread at the Soo Line Historical Museum on Thursday, Aug. 9, between 4 and 5:30 p.m. The bread baking display and silent auction will take place at the museum on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Heritage Village Days will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Visitors can take a step back in time as they experience demonstrations in blacksmithing,rope-making, ice cream making, butter churning, and the use of an outdoor oven. Heritage Village will also host entertainment from 1 to 6 p.m. on Friday and 1-5 p.m. on Saturday. There will also be face-painting from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Heritage Village will also put on a barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The T.C. Douglas Centre will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The centre will stage nightly productions of "The Pink Panther Strikes Again", starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening and running at the same time every night till Sunday.
There will be a Farmer's Market at the City Centre Mall from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. The Minard's People Mover will be touring the Farmer's Market, Soo Line Museum, T.C. Douglas Performing Arts Centre, Signal Hill Arts Centre, and Heritage Village from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The people mover will leave from the east side of the City Centre Mall on Second Street every hour.
The South Sask. Photo Club will be holding a photo exhibition at the Signal Hill Arts Centre from 9 to 12 a.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
A "Worship and Praise" service will be offered by the Weyburn Ministerial Association at the Comp Cafetorium at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
