The 2012 Women of the Year Awards has officially been launched and it's time to nominate those women who contribute to the community.
Quota International of Weyburn in partnership with Sask Power kicked off the 12th Annual Women of the Year Awards with a luncheon at the Legion on February 6.
Awards Chair Kate Dammann described the criteria for each category.
The Sask Power Workplace Excellence Award "will be presented to a woman who has excelled in the workplace by displaying a superior effort, a true desire to significantly improve her profession, work environment and or work efficiency."
The Quota International Community Service Award "is to recognize a woman as a volunteer who has demonstrated a commitment to enrich her community, to alleviate social inequality, to strengthen volunteer participation, to educate or provide leadership in the community."
The Access Communications Exceptional Entrepreneur Award is "presented to a woman for exceptional leadership or innovation in starting, operating or owning a business and who remains active in the business."
The Investor's Group Young Woman of Distinction Award is "presented to a young woman, between the ages of 18 and 30, who has made a significant to the life in her community and who demonstrates a capacity for leadership."
"The eleven year partnership we have had with Quota International of Weyburn has not only been successful in honouring the achievements of women," said Sask Power representative Joanne Jarvis. "But the money you raise and put back into your community is a wonderful thing."
Funds raised from the Awards will benefit disadvantaged women and children as well as people with impaired hearing and speech.
Jarvis noted that Quota International and Sask Power have been involved since the Women of the Year Awards' inception. She also encouraged nominations.
"Please take the time to nominate a deserving woman from your area," said Jarvis.
Joanne Jarvis presented Quota President Karla Kennedy with a cheque on behalf of Sask Power.
Emcee Isabelle Butters declared the nominations open and encouraged individuals to nominate women for these awards.
Karla Kennedy, President of the Quota Club, described the online application process, which is available at discoverweyburn.com. One simply just clicks the banner and it can all be done in minutes.
Nomination forms are also available at Brady's House of Flowers. The deadline for submission of nominations is March 9. The nominees will be announced at a tea on March 25 and the award luncheon will take place April 5.
