The Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop Corp. recently announced an update to its construction plans. As announced in the spring, the non-profit will be proceeding with construction of the new Day Program Building in the coming months. They are very close to their $500,000 fundraising goal and have received approval to proceed from the Ministry of Social Services, who will fund the remainder of the building project.

The agency originally purchased property located at 808 1st Avenue NW for this purpose, with the intent that the current 1720 East Avenue facility would be renovated for the SARCAN Recycling Depot and the existing Woodshop would remain in its current space.

However, these plans have now changed and expanded.

"After undergoing an intense due diligence process on all of our options for renovation of the current 1720 East Avenue facility, we determined that renovation was not the most feasible alternative to take us well into the future for all aspects of our organization", explained Wor-Kin Shop Executive Director Andria Brady.

"We are pleased to announce that in addition to building a new Day Program Building, we will also be constructing a brand new, fully modern SARCAN Recycling Depot."

The building will be more than twice the size of the current space and its design will incorporate enhanced customer service lanes, enhanced material handling capabilities as well as improved staff facilities. This building project will be funded solely by the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop Corp. in partnership with SARCAN Recycling and is completely independent of the Day Program Building project.

"Additionally, we are also planning for a brand new facility to house our Woodshop," said Brady. "These three new buildings will all be constructed on a new location that we will announce in the near future."
