WPS conducted two high-visibility check-stops

The Weyburn Police Service received 88 calls for service during the period of December 7 th through December 13 th , resulting in 15 charges being laid under the Traffic Safety Act, 6 charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, and 4 charges under the

The Weyburn Police Service received 88 calls for service during the period of December 7th through December 13th, resulting in 15 charges being laid under the Traffic Safety Act, 6 charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, and 4 charges under the City of Weyburn By-Laws.  WPS also conducted two high-visibility check-stops during the week with over 850 vehicles being checked.

December 7th, 2020

-Weyburn Police Service received a report of a theft of merchandise from a local business.  A suspect has been identified and the matter remains under investigation. 

-A report was received of a disturbance at a local business.  Police attended and were able to mediate the situation without charges.  

-Weyburn Police Service received a report of an assault that occurred inside a residence.  Police attended and one individual was taken into custody.  This matter is currently under investigation.  

December 8th, 2020

-Police received a report of a theft of a bike from an apartment building located on 7th St. N.  The bike is described as a black Bosco 21 speed mountain bike with a brown rear fender.

December 9th, 2020

-Weyburn Police Service conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle and found the driver to be suspended as well as having outstanding warrants for their arrest.  The driver was arrested and released with an upcoming court date, but not before adding an additional charge of resisting arrest.

December 11, 2020

-Weyburn Police Service received a complaint of an ongoing family dispute.  Police attended and were able to assist with mediating the situation.

-A report of a break and enter to a residence was received but Police were able to determine the culprit was none other than a neighbourhood cat.  

-WPS patrol officers, Combined Traffic Services of Sask (CTSS), Sask Highway Patrol, and Sask Conservation officers, worked together to conduct a high-visibility check stop.  Over 300 vehicles were checked resulting in one 60-day license suspension and a vehicle impoundment.

December 12, 2020

-A report of a domestic disturbance at a residence was received.  Upon Police arrival, it was found that an individual who was no longer welcome at the residence had left on foot.  The same individual was later located by Police and arrested for public intoxication.  

December 13, 2020

-Weyburn Police responded to a single vehicle collision, along with Weyburn EMS and Fire.  The driver was examined on scene and transported to the hospital for further treatment.

-Police responded to a residential fire on East Ave in the late hours of the night.  The homeowner heard a ruckus outside and was able to distinguish the fire on the exterior of the home prior to WFD arriving.  This matter is being investigated as an arson and anyone having any information, or possible doorbell or security system video, is being asked to contact WPS or CrimeStoppers.
