St. Michael School presented their year-end awards to students on Thursday night. Several Grade 9 students received prestigious awards, after completing their last year at the St. Michael School. A graduation ceremony for the Grade 9 students followed the awards ceremony.
Hailey Neiszner received the Larocque-Tremblay Citizenship Award. This award has become one of the most prestigious awards at St. Michael School. This student-selected award is given by using several criteria in choosing a candidate. The candidate should be aware of the needs of others, doesn’t hesitate to help other students or teachers, is a team player, is respectful to students and adults, and has a pleasant personality.
Alyssa Romanovitch received the Jerry Jordens Work Ethic Award. This award is sponsored by Jerry Jordens, a former principal of St. Michael School. It is given to a student with a great work ethic who strives to succeed and shows consistency of effort, someone who is willing to work hard for what he or she wishes to achieve.
Meagan Dutchak received the newly-created St. Michael School Award. This award is given to an individual who takes pride in both academics and extracurricular activities. This individual is able to find a healthy balance between school work and being active in school activities. They complete their school work to the best of their ability and are committed to the activities they sign up for.
A general proficiency academic award was presented to one student in each of Grade 7, 8 and 9. These students had to show dedication and achievement in their yearly school work. The chosen student also displayed promptness, understanding, and dedication in the classroom. The Grade 9 student was Lorynn Labbie, the Grade 8 student was Onello Bahingawan and the Grade 7 student was Brynn Romanovitch.
A religion award was presented to students in each grade, who have displayed an understanding and provided an example of faith throughout the year. Karissa Vilcu received the Grade 7 religion award, Megan Ebel received the Grade 8 award, and Mia Vilcu and Chaylene Lascelle received the Grade 9 award.
The Honour of Achievement award was presented to students who have thoroughly and punctually completed assignments and projects in their grade. They also had to maintain a consistent, high level of class participation, demonstrate Catholic values, and work independently and effectively in group situations.
In Grade 7, students included: Keely O’Neill, Thea Gregory, Jack Tuchscherer, Clay Hood, Abby Pohl, J’nai Sidloski, Grace Labatte, Jenai Lokken, Brynn Romanovitch, Sydney Spencer and Emily Williams. In Grade 8, students included Onello Bahingawan, Taryn Burns, Seth Diede, Megan Ebel, Kayla Olfert, Jonah Regier, Ty Nikolesjin, Isaac Loberg, Dominic Soles, Hunter Labbie, JoeAnne Quistadio, Kylie VanDeWoestyne, Jordyne Robertson and Matthew Hutt.
In Grade 9, students included: Emma Bitz, Ariel Erhaze, Mackenna Glennie, Jillian LaBatte, Lorynn Labbie, Liana Ness, Savannah Pohl, Allysa Sarmiento, Alexis Vandermey, Klea Zummack, Meagan Dutchak, Paige Fellner, Abbey Johnson, Chaylene Lascelle, Mikaila Mahnke, Mitchell McDonald, Alyssa Romanovitch and Sam Serverson.
The same group of Grade 9 students also received the Award of Excellence. This award is presented to those students who have received the Honour of Achievement for three conservative years.
The Leadership Award was presented to students in each class who has shown leadership in the classroom. In Grade 7, the students were Clay Hood and J’nai Lokken. In Grade 8, the students were Kayla Olfert and Jordyn Robertson. In Grade 9, the students were Klea Zummack and Abbey Johnson.
Several other awards were presented to Grade 9 students. Klea Zummack and Lorynn Labbie received Yearbook Awards, for having an active role in yearbook throughout their time at St. Michael. Savannah Pohl received the Student Representative Council award for being an exemplary model of leadership.
Coaches awards were also presented for the different sporting activities at the school. For A teams, the basketball recipients were Hailey Neiszner and Amiel Verdejo, and the volleyball recipients were Emma Bitz and Jaxon Chartrand. For B teams, the basketball recipients were Shayla Brenholen and Sameer Srikant, and the volleyball recipient was Sydney Meyers. The badminton recipients were Sam Severson and Emily Williams.
The curling coaches award went to Keegan Woodard. The cross country recipient was Alexis Vandermey. The track and field recipient was Lorryn Labbie. The athlete of the year male recipient was Chase Fillmore and the female recipient was Abbey Johnson. The sports camp scholarships were Seth Diede, Kaiden Busch, Emma Bitz, and Alyssa Romanovitch. In performing arts, the best male actor was Ariel Erhaze and the best female actresses were Savannah Pohl and Mackenna Glennie.
