WEYBURN – In the last week of October and early November, 18 chambers of commerce in Saskatchewan and several businesses began distributing rapid tests for individuals across the province, including the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce.
The 40th edition of Communithon exceeded their goal for 2021, reaching a total of $85,877 when the fundraiser went off the air at 11 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the Weyburn Legion Hall.
The Weyburn Comp Eagles football team are League Champions for the first time since 2009, with a 21-7 victory over the visiting Yorkton Gridders Raiders on Oct. 30 at Darold Kot Field, and went on claim a 24-13 victory over the Bishop James Mahoney Saints in the semi-finals for provincials on Nov. 6, and then the Eagles shut out the Balgonie Greenall Griffins 44-0 in the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association 5A provincial championship on Nov. 12.
Fourth generation farmer Brad and Roslyn Eggum of Halbrite was named the 2021 recipient of the Golden Sheaf Award by the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, presented at the Agriculture Appreciation banquet on Nov. 2 at McKenna Hall.
Weyburn city council approved an application for the Liquor Spot to locate in the building on First Avenue next door to Calvary Baptist Church, at the council meeting on Nov. 8.
A virtual Remembrance Day service was observed by the Weyburn branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, with local dignitaries speaking and laying wreaths at the front of the Legion Hall.
Viewing of decorated Christmas trees set up for the Festival of Trees began on Nov. 18 and the live auction of the trees was held online on Nov. 25.
One of Canada’s most recognizable voices, singer Chantal Kreviazuk, brought her sold-out Christmas show to Weyburn’s Cugnet Centre stage on Nov. 22.
