One night, they were the hunted. The next, they were the hunters.
The Estevan Apex Bruins were on both sides of blowout games on the weekend, losing 8-3 to the Notre Dame bantam Hounds on Friday, then hammering the Melville Millionaires 7-1 on Saturday. Both games were on the road.
The Bruins (7-9-1) are in ninth place in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League.
Against the Millionaires, the Bruins got two goals each from Dylan Massicotte, Marc Shaw and Colton Winton, and one from Josh Giblett.
They led 6-0 after two periods before the Mils got on the board in the third.
A power play goal by Massicotte and even strength markers by Giblett and Shaw gave Estevan a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
They proceeded to score three more goals in the final three minutes of the second, as Massicotte and Winton scored on power plays and Shaw scored at even strength.
Melville's Liam Tittle broke Landon Audet's shutout bid early in the third.
Later in the period, Winton's second of the night closed out the scoring.
Shots on goal were 30-24 for Estevan.
On Friday, the Hounds led 2-0 after the first and 5-1 after the second.
Dylan Soosay scored on the power play to break the ice less than six minutes in. Carson Focht potted his first of three goals on the evening later in the period.
Focht scored again 58 seconds into the second to make it 3-0.
Two minutes later, Matt Bill got the Bruins' first goal.
Goals by Kirill Tarasov, on the power play, and Zack Kosteniuk later in the period extended the Hounds' lead.
Shaw scored with a man advantage three minutes into the third to make it 5-2.
However, the Hounds countered with two more goals, courtesy of Tarasov and Kosteniuk.
Estevan's third goal came with five minutes to go, from Mitchell Morrison.
Focht added the Hounds' eighth goal 39 seconds later.
Shots on goal were 33-30 for the Hounds.
The Bruins were scheduled to visit the midget AA Hounds on Monday. They will host the Weyburn Wings on Friday. Game time is 8 p.m. at Affinity Place.
