The Weyburn Beavers fell twice to the west division leading team, the Medicine Hat Mavericks, on Sunday.

The Mavericks are also the top team in the Western Major Baseball League, with eight wins and only one loss.

The Beavers are currently placed third in the east division of the WMBL. They are 1.5 games back of the Regina Red Sox, who are leading the east division.

During the first game against Medicine Hat, the Beavers and the Mavericks fought for 11 innings, before the Beavers lost 9-4 against Medicine Hat.

Ryan Bourcier scored the first run for the Beavers, bringing Dylan LaFrentz during the bottom of the first.

Then during the third inning, the Mavericks scored one run, while the Beavers added two more runs due to an error, scoring in LaFrentz and Michael Lukkason. Medicine Hat scored one run in the fourth and then took a slight lead with two runs in the fifth inning.

Weyburn was able to tie the game with a run during the seventh inning, when Lukkason batted in Spencer Kidder. The game stayed tied until the top of the 11th inning, when the Mavericks were able to score five runs.

Ryan Johnson started on the mound for the Beavers, he pitched four innings and had four runs scored off eight hits. Pitching relief was Houston Creighton for an inning, Dustin Silva and Ryan Shaw both had two innings, and Kris Keating closed the last inning, with five runs scored off five hits.

During their second game against Medicine Hat, the Beavers lost 3-1. The Mavericks picked up one run in the first, third and sixth innings. The Beavers didn't get on the board until late in the seventh inning, when they scored their lone run.

Kyle Larson pitched the entire seven-inning game for the Beavers. He had three runs scored off five hits.

The Beavers claimed a 13-4 win over the Melville Millionaires on Friday night. The special tribute to Brennan Luffman was also held that evening, after being rescheduled from the home opener because of inclement weather.

The Beavers started strong in the second inning, scoring seven runs. Earning runs-batted-in were Kurtis McCallum, Dallas Monk, Michael Lukkason, Ryan Bourcier, Dalton Silva with a double and Chris Manning.

The Millionaires picked up one run in the third and then hit three runs in the sixth. The Beavers added another run in the seventh and then had a five-run inning during the eighth. Scoring RBIs were Lukkason, Bourcier, LaFrentz and Mannin.

Ben Moore was the winning pitcher for the Beavers, he threw for six innings and had four runs scored off seven hits. Pitching relief was Creighton and Kidder.

Earlier in the week, the Beavers won 4-1 against Yorkton on Thursday night.

The Beavers sent Michael Crain to the mound for his second appearance of the season, but his first start. Yorkton scored one run in the first inning, with the Beavers responded with two runs in the second and one run in the third inning. The Beavers scored their fourth run in the fifth inning.

Starting pitcher Crain earned his first winning of the game, throwing for seven innings and only having one run scored off four hits. Relief pitchers were Kevin Hatcher, making his debut with a scoreless eighth inning, and closer Creighton.

The Beavers faced the Yorkton Cardinals on Tuesday night. The Beavers will have five games coming up, including traveling to Regina on Thursday, June 13; then a game against Saskatoon at Tom Laing Park on Friday, June 14; they play in Moose Jaw on Saturday, June 15 and return to Tom Laing Park to host Melville in a doubleheader on Sunday, June 16.
