The Beavers play the Regina Red Sox in the first round. One game was held in Regina on Tuesday night, with the Beavers returning to the Red Sox field tonight, August 1.
The first home game for the Beavers will be Thursday, August 2 at 7:05 p.m. at Tom Laing Park. This is a best-of-five series, so game four is scheduled in Weyburn on Friday, August 3 and game five is scheduled in Regina on Saturday, August 4.
Other playoff series include Melville against Moose Jaw, Medicine Hat play Okotoks Dawgs, and the Swift Current Indians against the Lethbridge Bulls.
During the regular season, the Beavers played the Red Sox 10 times, and Regina won eight of those games.
In the last home games of the regular season, the Beavers played Regina twice and Swift Current once. They won their last home game of the season 8-6 on Sunday afternoon.
Weyburn opened with three runs in the first inning. Then Regina scored twice in the second, and one run in both the third and the fourth innings. During the seventh inning, Regina scored two runs, but the Beavers came back strong with five runs. Singles were hit by Jon Neuberger, Joseph Iorio, Dustin Silva, Tim Adams and Matthew Kinney.
Brennan Luffman started on the mound; he pitched six innings and had four runs scored off five hits with three errors recorded. Relief pitchers were Brad Weisgerber and Riley Schaaf.
The night before, on July 27, the Beavers fell 8-6 to the Red Sox in Regina. The Red Sox scored one run in the first inning and the Beavers tied the game in the third inning. Regina scored two runs in the fourth and the Beavers tied the game up again at the top of the sixth.
The Red Sox scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and three runs in the seventh. Both teams scored one run in the eighth, and the Beavers scored their last two runs in the ninth.
Kurtis McCallum started on the mound, he pitched five innings and had four runs scored off 12 hits and four errors recorded. Daniel Brown and Stuart Springer both pitched relief.
Earlier in the week, on July 26, the Beavers lost 6-1 to Swift Current. The Indians scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with the Beavers scoring their lone run in the sixth.
