The Weyburn Beavers will bring back Dan Grant as their head coach next summer. Grant took over the head coach position after Angelo Nicolosi was fired in early July.
"When Dan took over, it was a night and day difference," said Garnet Hansen, president of the Beavers organization.

Coach Grant joined the Beavers after his first year as an assistant coach at Vancouver Island Baseball Institute in Nanaimo, B.C. He had a playing career that earned him the honour of being inducted into the Parkland College Athletic Hall of Fame in January of 2011.

While at Parkland College Grant led the team to the 2002 NJCAA World Series Championship on his way to being named World Series most valuable player. He moved on to play at Division One University of Northern Iowa where he led in runs-batted-in, home runs, on-base percentage, and second in batting average in his senior year.

The Beavers had a 19-5 record and a third place finish in the East Division of the Western Major Baseball League. During the first round of the WMBL playoffs, the Beavers fell to the Regina Red Sox.

Now that the season is ended, several players will be graduating from the league, including Jon Neuberger, Brad Weisgerber, Phil Curtis and Derek Wallace.

Hansen noted that the Beavers executive is working with coach Grant to start recruiting for next year's team. They already have a good start, with interest from Kris Keating and Dylan LaFrentz to return.

There is still time for residents to purchase raffle tickets for a $5,000 CAA travel voucher. The Beavers will be awarding the voucher on Wednesday, Sept. 12, which is good for anything you can arrange through CAA in terms of travel.

Tickets are available from any of the Beavers executive and are also available at Hoium's MVP Sports. Single tickets are $20 and books are $200.
