Graham DeLaet has had a very successful season on the PGA Tour finishing 8th in the FedEx Cup and representing Canada at the Presidents Cup where he finished 3-1-1. It was not too long ago that Graham came back to Saskatchewan to raise money in support of junior golf and the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation. With Graham DeLaet and all of the people who supported the event, Golf Saskatchewan is proud to announce $81,500 was raised in July.
"These funds will go a very long way in supporting junior golf in Saskatchewan. We look forward to Graham's input in utilizing these funds to ensure it goes a long way in developing players, providing unique opportunities and experiences so children can advance within the sport and in life," said Brian Lee, Executive Director with Golf Saskatchewan.
"The tournament was a tremendous success and it is our hope we can do it again in 2014. We had nothing but positive feedback from the event with people saying it was the best golf event they have ever attended," said Phil Grosse, Manager of Sport Development & Marketing with Golf Saskatchewan.
A lot has happened since that special day in July. To put it in perspective, Graham was ranked 67 in the world and he is now ranked 32. He was outside the Presidents Cup team and went from being a consideration for a Captain's pick to making the team as the 8th man but arguably played the best for the International team.
Graham DeLaet is on the rise as a player but, he also cares about the state of the game.
"He is a great role model for kids in Saskatchewan to look up to and we are proud of what he has been able to achieve as a golfer and as a person. We are very thankful for Graham DeLaet to give back to golf in Saskatchewan. He has proved you can make it, regardless of where you are from," said Lee.
