Estevan’s Max Wanner signs with the NHL's Edmonton Oilers

EDMONTON - Estevan hockey product Max Wanner has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers.

The 19-year-old defenceman was recently returned to the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League after attending both the Oilers’ rookie camp and training camp.

He played 13:24 in his NHL preseason debut against the host Seattle Kraken on Monday night. 

Wanner appeared in 55 games for the Warriors last season, recording six goals and 17 assists along with 53 penalty minutes in his second season with Moose Jaw. 

Selected by the Oilers in the seventh round, 212th overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft, Wanner has played 77 career WHL games with 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) and 65 penalty minutes.

Wanner, listed as a 6’3”, 185-pound defenceman, played his minor hockey in Estevan before joining the Prairie Hockey Academy. He then played U18 AAA hockey for the Moose Jaw Warriors.
