Jones drafted in second round

Weyburn's own Brett Jones is now property of the Calgary Stampeders. Jones was picked seventh in the second round and 16th overall in the Canadian Football League (CFL) draft held May 6. He went into the draft ranked eighth overall.

Weyburn's own Brett Jones is now property of the Calgary Stampeders. Jones was picked seventh in the second round and 16th overall in the Canadian Football League (CFL) draft held May 6. He went into the draft ranked eighth overall.

The 6'2", 310 pound, 21-year-old Jones has played the last four years as an offensive lineman for the University of Regina Rams and has accumulated quite a resume both on and off the field while attending the U of R.

He was an Academic All-Canadian in 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012; Canada West All-Star in 2011 and 2012; Russ Jackson Award nominee for Canada West Outstanding Student-Athlete in 2011 and 2012; CIS First-Team All-Canadian in 2011 & 2012; 2011-2012 University of Regina Male Athlete of the Year; and J.P. Metras Trophy nominee for Canada West Outstanding Lineman in 2012.

Brett played his high school football with the Weyburn Comp. Eagles and is the son of Dr. Cheryl Roundy and Rob Jones of Weyburn.
