The Weyburn Midget AA Petrobakken Energy Wings played two games this past week in the SSMHL. First was a visit from the Moose Jaw Warriors to Crescent Point Place on October 10. Weyburn opened the night's scoring before the two minute mark when Jack Carleton slid the puck in behind the Moose Jaw goaltender to give the Wings an early 1-0 lead. Braden Mellon and Jacob Eger drew the helpers on Carleton's goal. Moose Jaw was able to tie up the contest near the halfway mark and the teams entered the first intermission tied at 1-1.
The Wings got the only goal of the second period to take a 2-1 lead when Cole Sjostrand fired the puck into the Warrior net on a rebound shot from Tucker Neuberger. Weyburn added one more in the third to take the game by a score of 3-1 and run their record to 2-0 on the young season. Tucker Neuberger was credited with the Wings final goal with Sjostrand and Eger drawing assists.
The Wings then played their first road game of the year in Regina on Sunday, October 14 against the Regina Capitals. The game sheet was unavailable at press time but the midget Wings were victorious by a score of 3-1 and continued the early season winning streak sitting atop the SSMHL standings with a record of 3-0.
The Petrobakken Midget Wings played two home games this week on Crescent Point Place ice. On Tuesday October 16, the Notre Dame Hounds were in town for an 8 p.m. puck drop. Then on Saturday the 20th, the Wings will battle the Regina Flames with a 4:30 p.m. game start.
