Two volleyball teams from the Weyburn Volleyball Club competed in their provincial tournaments.
The under-13 Strikers placed four in Tier Two in Saskatoon at their provincial tournament. They finished third in their pool to advance to playoffs.
They lost to Prince Albert, beat the QCVC Smashers, and lost in the three sets to the QCVC Renegades which put them in the Tier Two bronze medal match where they were defeated by Prince Albert. The girls have come very far this season as the triple ball format has allowed them to understand the game.
At times it was hard to believe these are 11, 12 and 13-year-old girls based on their development and progression in skill. Throughout their season they persevered through many injuries, developed their technical skills, learned game play, and worked hard as a team.
Members of the under-13 Strikers volleyball team include: Emersyn Jordens, Troy Dickie, Makenna Ling, Denae King, Jorde Chartrand, Avya Mason, Jamie Labbie, Reece Pittman and Kiera Pittman.
The under-14 Wildcats finished off their season with a silver medal in Tier One at the provincial tournament in Saskatoon.
They were undefeated in the round robin, and beat Oxbow in the semi finals to meet the PA Toppers in the gold medal match.
Weyburn fought hard in the championship game, and took PA to three sets with scores of 25-23, 23-25, 9-15 to finish second in the province.
“Nothing can match the heart of this little team! They became one unit over this club season and are certainly a force to be reckoned with in the future,” said coach Leslie Joorisity-Dickie. “In their entire season they played 45 matches, and only lost five of those.”
The compliments received from other coaches, peers and officials have made Weyburn Volleyball Club proud and are a clear reflection upon the efforts of the club.
Members of the under-14 Wildcats volleyball team include Maddy LaFoy, Harmony Grainger, Jacey Rowland, Erin Galarneau, Faith Nelson, Blayke Walbaum, Maggie Grams, Megan Schmidt and Chandler Dickie.
