The 16-and-under National Championship League water polo season continued this past weekend with teams travelling to the Kinsmen Centre in Edmonton for a tournament.
Estevan Sharks members Logan Dalziel, Lucas Dzeryk, Cameron Gillingham, Tristan Threinen and Nathan Threinen were among the male players who comprised Team Saskatchewan.
The boys hit the water on Feb. 22, and their first game was against the Edmonton Mako Tsunami. Gillingham hit the back of the net once and the rest of the local contingent played great defence, leading Saskatchewan to a 15-11 win.
They went on to play the Calgary Wild the next morning, where Gillingham scored three times and helped Estevan to a 12-7 win.
The Saskatchewan entry then played the Mako Tsunami again later in the day and once again the squad found themselves in the lead at half time, but after a strong comeback from the Tsunami, the game was tied with 30 seconds go to.
The coaches called a timeout to regroup, but with 20 seconds to go, the Tsunami scored the final goal of the night and took the game 15-14.
Saskatchewan is currently in fourth place in the Western League. The next action for the 16U team will be in Surrey, B.C., from Feb. 28-March 3.
