The Governors of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League held their semi-annual Governor's meeting in Melfort on January 18 and 19.
The Governors made the following decisions that will take place for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League next season.
There will be three divisions with four teams in each division. The LaRonge Ice Wolves, the Flin Flon Bombers, the Melfort Mustangs and Nipawin Hawks are in one division. The Battleford NorthStars, the Kindersley Klippers, the Humboldt Broncos and Notre Dame Hounds are in another division. The Estevan Bruins, the Weyburn Red Wings, the Melville Millionaires and the Yorkton Terriers are in another division,
Playoffs will see the teams with the most points at the conclusion of the regular season be deemed Division Winners, who will be seeded based on most points 1, 2 and 3.
The teams that finished second in each division will then be seeded based on the most points, 4, 5 and 6 for playoffs.
The teams with the next most points will then be seeded 7, 8, 9 and 10 and will be deemed the Wild Card playoffs. 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9. The winners in the best of 5 series will then take the 7 and 8 seeds based on points for the next series of the playoffs.
With the seeding of the teams for the playoffs it is thought that every game will have meaning during the regular season. Playing teams outside of your division will be just as important as playing a team in your division.
The Governors know this will create more interest in regular season play and will create some interesting series battles during the playoffs.
Notre Dame Hounds will be hosting the 2013-14 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies.
