Southeast athletes compete at Sask. Summer Games

Team Southeast athletes competed in the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Meadow Lake last week. Team Southeast was in second place overall for the medal count. These are the results from July 30 to Aug 2.

These are the results from July 30 to Aug 2.

The Team Southeast baseball team won bronze, after defeating Team Saskatoon in the bronze medal game with a 9-3 win.

Earlier in the week, the baseball team lost 15-0 to Team Saskatoon and 9-6 to Team Regina. They also won 9-2 against Team Southwest and 5-4 against Team Parkland.
The female soccer team finished seventh overall. They won 1-0 over Team Prairie Centre to secure seventh place.

Earlier in the week, the soccer team won 9-0 against Team North, lost 7-0 to Team Southwest, and also lost to Parkland Valley and Team Regina.

The boys soccer team lost 4-0 to Team Southwest and 2-0 to Team Lakeland.
Competing in canoe and kayak, Drew Barsness won bronze in the 4,000-metre male category. Three bronze medals were won by Team Southeast during the team competitions.

This included the four-man team of Drew Barsness, Mitch Harder, Mitchell Tuchscherer and Reece Skjonsby in the 500m; the two-man team of Barsness and Tuchscherer in the 500m; and the four-person team of Renee Bobier, Jillian Harder, Sarah VanDeSype and Alexandra Wendt in the 500m.

There were five members of the Weyburn Silver Seals who competed for Team Southeast during the Summer Games.

Dakken Bedore competed in the 14 to 15 boys category. He won gold in the 50 metre freestyle, the 200m breaststroke and the 4x50m freestyle relay; silver in the 100m freestyle, the 50m breaststroke and the 100m breaststroke; and bronze in the 4x50m medley relay and the 4x100m medley relay. Bedore also took fifth in the 50m butterfly and the 100m butterfy.

Tyler Grieve competed in the 12 to 13 boys category. He won silver in the 200m breaststroke; and bronze in the 4x50m freestyle relay, the 4x50m medley relay and the 4x100 medley relay. Grieve also placed fifth in the 100m breaststroke and competed in the 50m freestyle and the 100m freestyle.

Caitlin Davis competed in the 13 to 14 girls category. She competed in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.

Olivia Bocian competed in the 11 to 12 girls category. She won gold in the 4x100m medley relay; and silver in the 4x50m freestyle relay and the 4x50m medley relay. Bocian also placed fourth in the 100m butterfly and the 50m butterfly, and competed in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke. Payton Oberg competed in the 11-12 girls category. She won gold in the 4x100m medley relay; and silver in the 4x50m freestyle relay and the 4x50m medley relay. She also competed in the 100m freestyle, the 200m freestyle, the 100m backstroke, the 200m breaststroke, the 50m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.

In athletics, Ben Rumpel won bronze in high jump.

Due to an early publication deadline on Friday, results from Aug. 3 to 5 were unavailable. The total medal count for Team Southeast was also unavailable.
