It’s not quite the Brier or the Scotties, but the World Curling Tour’s Weatherford Curling Classic is set to return after 2013’s inaugural event. The tournament running from Nov. 28 to Dec.

Seven members of the Estevan Skating Club represented the city at the Skate Canada sectional competition in Melville last week. It was the largest contingent of skaters the club has sent in the last 10 years to compete at such a high level.

In a tight contest where the TS&M bantam AA Bruins traded goals with their opponent for much of the evening, a late score in the final minute of the third period wasn’t enough to propel the Bruins to victory.

Two Weyburnite athletes have been nominated to the CFL West Division All-Star Team. Centre Brett Jones of the Calgary Stampeders and Guard Brendon LaBatte of the Saskatchewan Roughriders were both given the nod to the team.

It's the start to a new hockey season and the atoms start it off right with a strong first game this past weekend.

Wawota hosted 1A girls volleyball conferences on Saturday, Nov. 8. With Wawota, Whitewood, Kahkewistahaw, Manor, Broadview, and Kakisiwew competing. The teams began playing at 10 a.m.

Brendon LaBatte and the Riders will enter the playoffs on a positive note, following a 24-17 win over the Eskimos on Saturday. The result sets up a rematch in the western semi-final between the two teams, in Edmonton on Sunday, Nov. 16.
