The Editor:
This letter is in response to the article in the Feb. 27 paper about our streets and potholes; especially to city council and Jim Puffalt, city manager.
The roads that we have to drive on are ridiculous. People say Estevan is the richest city around with the oil, power plant, mines and farms. I moved here 34 years ago and nothing has changed. The roads were bad then and are just as bad or worse. Even if you miss one pothole, you hit six others. This idea of packing and patching is a joke, especially with cold asphalt. They don't even clean the holes out first.
It seems the City has money for everything else but not for our roads. I think the City has to bite the bullet and do it right. I am not saying it all has to be done at once, but at least the people could see where the money is going.
Taxes, power, water and sewer and fuel just keep going up and still we have nothing to drive on for what we are paying for. Maybe we should look at getting someone from out of town to fix the roads. That's what other cities do with a time and date every year for it to be done.
I have talked to other people and they feel the same way but don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Maybe if other people would speak out, something would be done.
The signs say welcome to Estevan, it should say welcome to holes. I know other places have problems too, but we left it go too long.
I love living here and I don't want to move. I know this letter isn't going to help, but I do pay taxes. I am not saying I have answers for everything, but we have to try.
Garry Huber,
Estevan
